Lucia Lorenzi

SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in English and Cultural Studies, McMaster University

Lucia Lorenzi is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English and Cultural Studies, working under the supervision of Dr. Amber Dean. She received her PhD from the University of British Columbia, during which time she was also a Liu Scholar at the Liu Institute for Global Issues. Her research focuses on representations of sexual violence in literature, drama, and other media, with specific interests in the strategic use of silence, epistemologies of trauma, and public responses to perpetrator narratives. Her postdoctoral research project, entitled “Unspectacular and Always Human” (after W.H. Auden), takes up the figure of the perpetrator and considers the creation, dissemination, and reception of narratives by and about those who use violence.

Trained as a Canadianist, Dr. Lorenzi is also interested in issues of race and gender in Canadian literary culture, and is under contract with Wilfrid Laurier University Press to complete a book on Black life and Canadian literary culture. Her work has previously been published in West Coast Line, TOPIA: Canadian Journal of Cultural Studies, and Canadian Literature.

Dr. Lorenzi is a 2016 Laureate of the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case, Canada’s highest honour for work benefiting women and girls.
