Caleb Ferguson

Chancellors Postdoctoral Research Fellow, University of Technology Sydney

Dr Caleb Ferguson RN PhD is an experienced educator and an early career nurse researcher. Currently, Caleb is appointed as a UTS Chancellors Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2016-2019) within the Discipline of Pharmacy in the Graduate School of Health. His program of research focuses on stroke prevention and patient centered approaches to the management of atrial fibrillation.

Caleb has over 10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and a Clinical Nurse Educator in the UK and Australia, primarily within the clinical areas of neuroscience and stroke. He has previously held positions as Lecturer at the University of Tasmania and more recently as Lecturer and Director of Postgraduate Nursing Studies within UTS Faculty of Health.

Since 2012, he has co-authored over 20 peer reviewed publications, 4 editorials and 2 book chapters. His current h-index is 9. His key research interests are atrial fibrillation, chronic care, stroke and social media. He currently holds 3 grants investigating 1) nurse knowledge in atrial fibrillation; 2) social media use in student nurses; 3) evidence based practice. He is a registered category 2 research supervisor and is available for supervision of B Honors and PhD studies in his area of expertise.

In 2015, Caleb was awarded a National Stroke Foundation Fostering Future Leaders Grant. Since 2012 he has been a volunteer StrokeSafe Ambassador for the National Stroke Foundation undertaking regular community talks aimed at raising awareness of stroke.

He is an Editor for Contemporary Nurse and also undertakes peer review for many national and international journals including Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality & Outcomes, International Journal of Nursing Studies, Journal of Advanced Nursing, and the Journal of Clinical Nursing. During 2014, he was a guest co-editor for Collegian on a special issue on Social Media in Nursing.

He is also a contributor to The Conversation, 2SER’s Think:Health show and an avid tweeter.
