Google Stadia users who purchased or played Ubisoft games through the platform can now continue accessing those titles on PC. More players are reporting that they have received free copies of Ubisoft games ahead of Stadia’s shutdown next month.
Ubisoft confirmed via 9To5Google on Monday that it has started migrating games from Stadia to PC through its Ubisoft Connect service. The same publication reported that the process likely started last Friday and became more widely available over the weekend.
This was corroborated by several Reddit users. Players who had Ubisoft titles from Stadia have said in this thread that they have started seeing their games automatically appear on their Ubisoft Connect app.
The migration is reportedly happening automatically as long as players have their Stadia and Ubisoft accounts linked. Reddit users added that they have noticed the games have been “trickling in,” suggesting that the games per account do not migrate all at once.
Meanwhile, the same publication also noted that save files might not be available to all Ubisoft games migrating from Stadia. This might only be available on titles that support cross-progression. Players can manually save their progress from games that do not have cross-progression through Google Takeout.
The PC copies of the Ubisoft games are being provided for free. This is on top of Google’s promise to refund game purchases (including DLCs and add-ons) made through its Stadia platform.
Stadia users should start migrating or downloading their saved files and game progress soon because the platform is scheduled to shut down on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023. Google announced the closing of its video game streaming service in late September.
“It hasn't gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” Stadia GM Phil Harrison said in a blog post at the time. “We’re grateful to the dedicated Stadia players that have been with us from the start.”
Game publishers, including Ubisoft, promised to support customers in migrating their games from Stadia to another platform (usually PC) after Google’s announcement. Google started processing refunds in November.
