US under Trump Series: Secret Project Veritas video shows CNN promoting fake news on Russia for ratings

This week turned out to be a big victory week for the US President Donald Trump and his administration which remained dogged by allegations of colluding with Russia since the first day of the Presidency. Several leaks and continued false coverage of the story by the mainstream media, especially CNN continued to hamper the agendas of the Trump administration. A secret video captured by James O’Keefe of Project Veritas shows that all that is being done for the sake of good ratings.

The video, which is available here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdP8TiKY8dE , shows that a senior producer at CNN, who has worked with the network for 15 years describing the intense speculation that Russia aided the Trump presidential campaign as “bullsh*t.” Filmed on a hidden camera, CNN producer John Bonifield admits the organization’s anti-Russia reporting is purely for ratings. He was seen saying, “It’s mostly bullsh*t right now. Like, we don’t have any big giant proof”. O’Keefe formed Veritas in 2010 claiming its mission is to "investigate and expose corruption, dishonesty, self-dealing, waste, fraud and other misconduct." It came into the spotlight when it exposed Democracy Partners, an off-shoot of Democratic Party of the United States, saying how they rig an election. It caused quite a sensation before the election leading to the resignation of Democratic Election Commissioner who visited the White House hundreds of times during Obama administration.

In this latest Veritas sting, Bonifield, supervising producer at CNN Health, makes the admissions to an unidentified journalist, who is heard in a brief edit of clips asking about the Russian narrative in CNN’s reporting. “So why is CNN constantly like, ‘Russia this, Russia that?’” the journalist asks, to which Bonifield responds, “Because it’s ratings…….I think the President is probably right to say, like, look, you are witch-hunting me”. He adds, “Our ratings are incredible right now”, pointing to the success of Russia narrative.
