Toyota Motor Corporation has unveiled the latest addition to the Crown Sport Hybrid (HEV) lineup in Japan. To be launched in November, it aims to cater to customers' diverse needs and preferences, offering four unique variants.
A New Era for Crown Brand
The introduction of these four models signifies the beginning of the second chapter for the Crown brand, reports Japan Today. Among them, the Sport type stands out as an SUV with a fresh design that appeals to the senses and an exciting driving experience.
Embodying a new form, the Sport SUV embraces an exhilarating and creative ambiance, says Auto Deal. With its easy entry and exit and effortless driving, it provides both agility and sportiness on the road.
Unlike other Crown stablemates like crossovers, sedans, or estates, the Crown Sport sets itself apart with its distinctive characteristics. It offers versatility, drawing attention to its unconventional approach.
Hybrid Performance Options
Toyota offers two powertrain options for the Crown Sport. The first is a self-charging hybrid system featuring the 2.5-liter E-Four Parallel Hybrid system derived from the Crown Crossover. This setup delivers an impressive combined output of 231 horsepower, distributed to all four wheels through an electric 4WD system.
In addition to the hybrid version, Toyota is also working on a plug-in hybrid variant. While detailed specifications are yet to be revealed, it is hinted that this variant will offer an extended electric vehicle range, thanks to a new "large-capacity lithium-ion battery" cleverly designed to maximize cabin space.
Enhanced Driving Experience
The Crown Sport is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, precisely tuned to provide an enjoyable driving experience. With a strong focus on deepening the connection between driver and vehicle, Toyota aims to create a unique bond behind the wheel.
Striking Design Elements
The Crown Sport's sculpted bodywork and well-defined rear fenders accentuate the vehicle's presence on the road. Its profile is further enhanced by 21-inch alloy wheels, complemented by horizontally arranged LED taillights and a sleek, sharply inclined rear windshield. The sporty rear design also includes vertical outlets integrated into the rear bumper.
Customers can choose from six exterior colors and five bi-tone combinations for the SUV, allowing them to personalize their Crown Sport. A new interior option combining Sand Brown and Black adds to the overall aesthetics and appeal.
Immersive Cabin Experience
Toyota introduces a first-of-its-kind sound-regulating ceiling in the Crown Sport. Designed to reflect sounds within the cabin, this innovative feature enhances the overall acoustic experience for passengers, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable ride.
Since Crown Sport has made its debut in Japan, Toyota said it also plans to launch a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version around December, the Crown Sedan model around November, and the Crown Estate model before the end of this fiscal year 2024.
