SAN DIEGO, May 07, 2018 -- Problems that result from alcohol and drug abuse represent a failure on the part of health educators. Those men and women have failed to educate the majority of young people in the vital importance of avoiding unhealthful habits. As a result, too many teens and young adults fall victim to the effects of alcohol and drug addiction.

While both substances can do damage to the human body, each creates its damaging effects in a different way. Alcoholic liquids get into the bloodstream at an exceptionally rapid rate. Such fluids enter the circulatory system within 15 minutes after they have been consumed. Within one hour, the concentration of alcoholic contents within the veins, capillaries, and arteries has reached its peak.
Drugs take longer to have an effect. Still, both substances alter the normal balance of chemicals in the brain. Therefore, those who persist in performing the behaviors that expose the body to those dangerous chemicals cannot think clearly.
Their primary thoughts concern a desire for more of the substance that has allowed them to experience a period of great pleasure. Because the addicted person cannot think clearly, he or she feels ready to do anything, in order to obtain the thing that he or she so desires. At that point, his or her behavior demonstrates the need for some form of addiction treatment.
Those groups that help with alcohol treatment encourage a former addict to stay clear of any beverage that contains alcohol. Groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous have shown that such an approach manages to prevent a recurrence of the behaviors that have created difficulties for friends and family in the past. Families repeatedly turn to such a group, when seeking assistance.
Withdrawal can also help a person overcome an addiction to drugs. However, the person who tries to withdraw from an illegal substance usually experiences a series of quite unpleasant sensations. He or she generally must remain hospitalized or at least confined and under medical supervision for a couple of days.
Once someone has managed to break free of his or her bad habit, then he or she can resume a healthy and productive life. He or she can get a hold a job. He or she can handle all of the everyday responsibilities.
