Swedish exports rise in May, records net trade surplus of SEK 2.8 billion

Sweden’s goods exports rose in the month of May. The exports of goods amounted to SEK 114 billion, a rise from April’s value of SEK 99.5 billion. Meanwhile, the import of goods also increased in the month, rising to SEK 112.billiion from SEK 102.7 billion.

As a result, the net trade balance came in at a surplus of SEK 2.8 billion, as compared with April’s deficit of SEK 3.2 billion (revised down from SEK -2.6 billion), showed, Statistics Sweden.

On a year-on-year basis, Sweden’s exports rose 18 percent in value in the month of May, while the value of imports rose 11 percent year-on-year.

Sweden’s trade with nations outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 15.1 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 12.3 billion.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the Swedish net trade deficit came in at SEK 0.5 billion in May 2017, as compared with a deficit of SEK 0.8 billion seen in April 2017. The corresponding figure for March 2017 was a deficit of SEK 1.2 billion.
