SolarCity's GivePower Foundation to be honored at Non Profit buildOn's Bay Area Dinner

SAN FRANCISCO, June 1, 2016 -- The 2016 buildOn Bay Area Dinner is a celebration of solidarity and service. This inspiring evening unites over 400 corporate executives, young professionals and community leaders to recognize the work of buildOn's incredible youth here in the Bay Area, their dedication to community, and the work buildOn does globally. The dinner will take place at 6:00pm on June 3rd at the iconic San Francisco City Hall.

This year, buildOn is honoring SolarCity's GivePower Foundation for their continued commitment to sustainability, service and education. Since first teaming up in 2013, buildOn and SolarCity have now illuminated more than 200 schools with clean, sustainable solar power in Nicaragua, Haiti, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Nepal and Malawi.

Hayes Barnard, SolarCity's Chief Revenue Officer and GivePower Foundation's President, will be accepting the honor and speaking at the dinner.

The buildOn solar-equipped schools can now stay open after dark, providing safe spaces where children can study after class, adults can learn in Adult Literacy Classes and community members can gather. But the benefits go well beyond the classroom. Solar power is creating sustainable development in buildOn partner communities and helping to alleviate many of the 'energy poverty' issues that often plague the developing world.
