‘Shrek 5’: Is the movie confirmed? Here are some production details to know

“Shrek 5” has been loved by millions, and as proof, Dreamworks has produced many spinoffs and shows based on the characters. Previously, it was even reported that the fifth movie installment was delayed to give way to “Puss in Boots 2.”

The producers of the “Shrek” franchise know that many people worldwide love the movie, and since it is still gaining so much attention and love, Dreamworks will surely continue producing this film along with NBCUniversal, the company that acquired the studio. Although it is obviously taking a while before it is released in theaters, it certain that it will still come out.

Moreover, “Shrek 5” has long been confirmed and announced. It is just - the problem is, the fifth installment is not yet being filmed up to now. Plus, if the shoot will begin any time soon, it will still take a few more years before the team wraps up because producing an animation movie requires a long process.

Firstly, Dreamworks and NBCUniversal have hired a new writer to breathe new life to the story. NBCUniversal expressed its wish for the movie to be unique, so they said they would “reinvent” it.

Michael McCullers, who also penned comedies such as “Austin Powers” and “Boss Baby,” was placed as the new writer of “Shrek 5.” Immediately after his assignment, the well-known screenwriter set out to work, and he completed the full script in no time.

“I finished that script which I really, really, really love and it’s really personal to me,” McCullers relayed to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level.”

And this is not all, Dreamworks and NBCUniversal also made sure that fans know “Shrek 5” is not canceled. To do this, they reconfirmed that they will produce the movie.
