Following the massive success of “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” its sequel, “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” will satisfy fans of the franchise who want to see more of Lara Croft in action. One of the most notable absences in this upcoming installment is the lack of Lara’s twin pistols, Tech Radar reported.
Game director Dan Bisson previously confirmed that Lara will not be wielding her signature pistols but instead will use a bow as her long-range weapon. While this may be a slight deviation for the character, it’s actually quite the improvement especially for the storyline the game is following.
“Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will have Lara Croft exploring jungles and ancient crypts filled with traps and pitfalls around the hidden city of Paititi. And without her guns, Croft will be stealthier traversing these places. Immersion is important, especially for hardcore gamers, and the absence of the noisy weapons cracking inside caves is just but one aspect that will engross them once they start playing the game.
And speaking of immersion, the game will have the option to choose whether or not the characters in the game will speak their native language or simply the player’s preferred mother tongue. Some fans were vexed by the previous installment for not having this option and the game developers listened to that criticism quite well.
“Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will be the hardest game of the franchise as Bisson said it’s important to the storyline given how Lara Croft has grown through the years. The stronger the character, the harder the obstacles are. Of course, casual gamers have the option to turn down the difficulty level but hardcore players will surely play the game on hard mode the moment they get their hands on the game.
Frustratingly difficult games like “Dark Souls” and “Quantum Break” have been surprisingly popular among the gaming community and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” means to adopt this trend. So for those who wish for harder fights, puzzles, and obstacles then this next installment will surely bring in the challenge that they are looking for.
"Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will be released on Sept. 14, 2018. The game can be pre-ordered now via different retailers with a price of $50 for the regular edition, $70 for the deluxe edition, $90 for the Croft edition, and $200 for the ultimate edition, which is only available via the Square Enix Store.
