Samsung may be flattening the competitive industry of smartphones by making the next generation's most-talked-about feature become a standard inclusion even in their upcoming base smartphone models
In a report by Forbes, a recent leak about Samsung's flagship Galaxy S models describes the new in-display fingerprint sensor as an evergreen feature. In-display fingerprint scanning will not just be available to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, with the new sensor to be available in all three variants of the 10th edition of the Galaxy S.
While in-display fingerprint scanning will be available across the board, the rumor is that lower-end models will receive a different methodology of executing the in-display fingerprint scanning feature. The higher-end models will be fitted with ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanners while the lower model will house an optical fingerprint scanner beneath the screen.
Details on the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that is rumored to be equipped on the Samsung Galaxy S10 models can be related to a leak regarding a recent patent filed by the South Korean smartphone manufacturer for an ultrasonic scanner. If Samsung does roll out the in-display fingerprint scanning for the upcoming 10th edition Galaxy S models, fans of the smartphone manufacturer can look forward to slimmer phones with easier ways of navigating and authenticating access to their personal devices.
Samsung's focus on in-display fingerprint scanning technology comes as a different innovation in comparison to Apple's obsession with Face ID scanning. 2017's iPhone X is one of the first models released by the America smartphone manufacturer to have the proprietary face-scanning technology.
Fans of the Samsung Galaxy S series can look forward to the Galaxy S10 potentially debuting at MWC 2019 sometime in January or February. The potential release date will be similar to how the Galaxy S9 debuted during MWC 2018.
