The fifth season of “Rick and Morty” is coming up and it is expected to be around season 5 is definitely on its way back to TV but it may not arrive very soon. Its production is on-going and showrunners Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland shared that they are working from home.

The duo revealed this detail - that they have not stopped working on “Rick and Morty” season 5 after fans once again started to express their disappointment over the show’s seemingly slow progress. They have expected the fifth season to arrive fast since the showrunners already received an order for the future episodes as early as 2017.

Harmon stated in June that they have started the works for the fifth season. He also suggested that they are working continuously since the fourth installment.

“We had already finished Season 4 and the writers are working on season 5 in two-hour blocks through Zoom,” he told The Wrap. “There are a lot of things that are better about a Zoom writers’ room, and they are balanced out by things that are worse.”

Season 6 also in the works

In his latest update, he shared during the Comic-Con panel via Entertainment Weekly that they have finished writing for “Rick and Morty” season 5 so they are now in the production stage. Still, the staff is working remotely.

The best part of this information is that it was also hinted that the team already started working on season 6. This is good news because it means there will be a shorter waiting period between the fifth and sixth installments of the “Rick and Morty” animation.

Trailer and the new villain

The first trailer for “Rick and Morty” season 5 was also unveiled already although it is still in a rough sketch format. The video may be enough to appease the impatience of the fans.

In the clip, Rick and Morty were shown traveling outside of Earth and the former has been injured. Although Morty was able to maneuver their spacecraft back to their world, they landed in the wrong area.

They are alive when the spacecraft crashed in the ocean but Rick and Morty met Mr. Nimbus there who turned out to be Rick’s nemesis. This suggests that they are in trouble in “Rick and Morty” season 5.

Plot twist theory

As per Express, a shocking plot twist is coming in season 5 as Rick and Morty could actually be one and the same person. It was said that the older one who calls himself Rick Sanchez is actually the older version of Morty.

On the other hand, the younger Morty is really Jerry’s son and this happened when in the earlier seasons Morty was given a potion called “Rip Van Winkle.” This allowed him to sleep through the years without dying but his body aged.

The old Morty is able to act like his grandpa Rick Sanchez when he consumed another formula that gave him Rick’s memories. At any rate, “Rick and Morty” season 5 is expected to be released before the year ends.
