SAN ANTONIO, June 23, 2016 -- Charter school operator ResponsiveEd will open its seventh Founders Classical Academy in Schertz in August. The campus, located on the east side of Randolph Air Force Base, will serve 400 students in grades K-7 in 2016.
Within five years ResponsiveEd expects to enroll 700 students in grades K-12. The school will add a grade each year.
Anthony Edwards, ResponsiveEd's Vice President of School Activations, believes the new school is a great step towards expanding the Founders Classical Academy school model in South Texas.
"Response has been strong to this new Founders campus in Schertz and Converse. Parents have expressed a great deal of interest in K-12 classical education. We are looking forward to becoming an important presence in San Antonio," he said.
ResponsiveEd started its first Founders Classical Academy in Lewisville in 2012 through a partnership with Hillsdale College. The school has grown to 850 students, and parent interest that has led to the opening of six schools in Texas and one in Arkansas.
Nathanael Rea, formerly Assistant Headmaster at Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville, has been named the school's Headmaster. He graduated from Hillsdale College with a degree in history.
"I am excited to be able to share this kind of school culture that honors excellence in academics but also in the student's humanity, helping them grow into well-rounded human beings. Students will rise to the standard that you set for them. They are capable of a whole lot more than we sometimes think they are. They have an incredible ability to perform at a higher standard that what is often expected of them," he said.
The school will offer a classical liberal arts curriculum with a focus on virtue-based character education and American civics.
"In an age where technology is ever changing and many schools are in constant experimentation, many people feel lost and unable to keep up. When making this very important decision about what kind of education our kids will receive, one can easily see the attraction of something that has been stable, time honored, trusted for a long period of time and continues to be the choice of those who have unlimited options. That is what we are offering. We teach kids things we know are reliable and true," said Rea.
Because ResponsiveEd was able to purchase an existing school building, the new campus will immediately benefit from a gym, large classrooms, a kitchen and land to expand.
