The wait for “Overlord” season 4 continues in the new decade. It is understandable for some fans to be a little worried, though. More than a year passed without a concrete update on the next season. However, there is possibly one clue that suggests the anime series is more likely going to continue.

'Overlord' season 4: What the Blu-ray/DVD sales say about the anime’s future?

The anime “Overlord” is based on the same title light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. It is probably one of the most popular titles under the isekai genre -- both its anime and manga iterations -- explaining the continuing demand for “Overlord” season 4 to be made.

Unfortunately, there is no indication that the wait for the “Overlord” season 4 confirmation will end this year. But, in general, it is safe to bet that the producers have more reasons to continue making the show.

The franchise’s popularity was manifested in the Blu-ray and DVD sales of the anime’s second and third seasons. Someanithing.com reports that season 2 sold a total of 6,280 copies while season 3 home media sales were at 7,222 as of last Dec. 7. These numbers are not the only determining factor for the making of “Overlord” season 4. But these are crucial information showing there is steady support for the anime adaptation making a series renewal more appealing to the producers.

'Overlord' season 4: Is the series renewed or canceled?

In terms of source materials, there are enough light novel volumes for “Overlord” season 4 to be made. However, the pace of new volume releases has drastically slowed down since 2016 hinting at much longer breaks in between new anime seasons.

The lack of updates about “Overlord” season 4 has left fans scrambling to get any ounce of hope that the anime would continue. Many are holding on to the post-credits message in season 3 finale the says, “The story goes on.”

Meanwhile, there was also quite a confusion last summer when it was reported that the “Overlord” season 4 was confirmed at an anime convention in Germany. However, fans present at the event later clarified that no announcement took place. Anime scriptwriter Yukie Sugawara reportedly only said that the making of season 4 is “extremely likely.”
