A full battle is now ongoing on Onigashima island as everyone including Kaido already knows that they have been infiltrated by their enemies. “One Piece” chapter 989 is still part of the Wano Arc and in fact, this chapter will set a record as this will be the said arc’s 80th episode.
The events happening on the island are getting more intense and fans are really anticipating the next scenes. This is because the Straw Hat Pirates alliance and the Beast Pirates will finally face each other and fight for the Land of Wano.
Chapter recap
In the previous chapter 988 titled “Sorry for the Wait,” the Minks have turned to their Sulong form and now facing Kaido. On the other hand, the Straw Hat Pirates are dealing with Big Mom. At this point, Kaido has already turned to his dragon form because he was overwhelmed by the enemies charging towards him.
Jack was fighting by his side so he is not exactly fighting the Minks all by himself but one of his right-hand men is there with him. Neko and Inu face Jack so the others are fighting with Kaido.
Nami was going against Big Mom and amid the chaos Brook and Franky arrived. Big Mom was not aware of their arrival so when they attacked her, he laid flat on the floor.
At any rate, King got angry at Jack in “One Piece” chapter 988 because he went to the battle without the beast pirates’ permission. He is also seething because he was left alone to guard Momonosuke.
Thus, when King and Queen were talking about Jack, Shinobu slipped in and tried to free Momo. He was caught by King but luckily, he was able to free Momo before he gets injured.

In the upcoming “One Piece” chapter 989, fans will see what will happen to Big Mom since the Straw Hats Pirates succeeded in attacking and sending her to the ground. It was predicted that she will get conscious again once only Kaido is remaining in the fight and she needs to support him.
It is also interesting to see how the Minks in their Sulong form will fight Kaido. Will they be able to injure the villain and if they did, how much damage could he get from the tribe. The flying six may also help Kaido to fight the Minks but it is likely that the latter will be too powerful for them.
Release date
It was announced that “One Piece” chapter 989 will be delayed as Eiichiro Oda is taking a break again for health reasons. As per One Piece Fandom, the new release date is on Sept. 7.
