One of the biggest issues that those who have tried or own VR headsets with enough power to make gaming or simulations worthwhile is the matter of the hardware. While the headgear might be fine, all of the cables in the confined space can spell trouble when stepped on. This is why upcoming products like the Oculus Quest are expected to change things, with Adam Orth being one of the believers.
In a recent conversation with the Game Daily, the developer of “Firewall: Zero Hour” remarked that the Oculus Quest could really make the difference in lagging rise of the VR industry. He also said that he has games currently lined up, with one made specifically for the Oculus headset. It has yet to be approved, but he is hoping that the product itself will allow for better prospects in the VR development arena.
“As a creator, I’m super okay with taking that graphics hit because I’m very comfortable and believe in designing and creating with boundaries. I’m willing to take that hit because I believe in the freedom of wireless and the things that you can do there,” Orth said.
What the developer is referring to there is the matter of the Oculus Quest offering lower graphical capabilities than the Rift. This is due to the headset going wireless. As a result, players get more freedom at the cost of pixels. Then again, this could be worth it if it means that VR becomes more accessible to people and the developer seems to be of the same mind.
“You’ve got to take risks right now if you want to do big things in VR. It’s the price of admission for developing [in VR]. But when you think about the Oculus Quest and the standalone headsets? Everyone’s going to have them at some point,” he pointed out.
