The company behind Nokia-branded smartphones, HMD Global, recently announced that it would be hosting an event for launching smartphones on July 11 in China. The specifics with regards to which smartphones would be featured have not been officially confirmed. However, the rumored Nokia X5, which is also called the Nokia 5.1 Plus, is likely to make an appearance.
Even though the launch is expected to happen soon, GSMArena did a last-minute report, which included images of what the Nokia X5 is supposed to look like. Based on what has been shown, this new smartphone will apparently come with a notch, which many tech industry journalists have come to hate.
Other than that distracting feature, it would seem that the device will come with a 5.86-inch screen with a 720p display. That is a bit disappointing considering it’s now 2018, but it’s likely that the price point will offset the displeasure from this particular aspect quite a bit. It’s expected to launch at around $120, after all.
The cameras will reportedly be a 13MP and 5MP setup for the rear and front lenses, respectively. There will even supposedly be an 8MP front sensor. In terms of the chipset, the device will apparently come with the Helio P60 instead of the P23. Battery capacity is expected to be at 3,000mAh, Gadgets Now reports.
In terms of the target audience for the Nokia X5, it’s clear that HMD is aiming for lower-tier consumers, who only really need enough features and functionality in smartphones for everyday life. Considering how affordable the expected price of the device will be upon launch, this really shouldn’t be surprising.
When taking the aforementioned features, along with a reported rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, into consideration, the Nokia X5 might actually be a great deal. Once it launches on the global market, it will likely be called Nokia 5.1 Plus, as well.
