The main Nintendo store in New York City, Nintendo World, recently received a bomb threat from a disgruntled fan. Apparently, the person wasn’t happy about the removal of “Super Smash Bros.” kiosks from the store. According to unconfirmed reports, the incident has since been upgraded to terror threat levels and it would appear that the FBI is getting involved.
The NYPD recently confirmed to Inverse that the bomb threat was being investigated. The threat was apparently discovered by administrators of its forums, where an unidentified individual had left the alarming message back in April.
One of the first to start circulating the news on the web was Twitter user Mitsu. In a post, Mitsu broke the news that the situation has escalated to the point that the FBI has entered the scene.
“BREAKING: Nintendo World NYC received a bomb threat earlier this morning from a yet unidentified person expressing displeasure over the Smash Bros. kiosks being removed from the store. The situation has been escalated by NYPD to the FBI and may be investigated as a Terrorist act,” the post reads.
Neither the NYPD nor the FBI has confirmed any of these details as of writing. For now, the only information that has been deemed concrete is the fact that a threat was made. The motivation behind the threat has not been confirmed by the NYPD, either.
Investigators are still looking into who made the threat and why it was made. So far, the only reason that has been brought up that could have prompted the fan to make the threat is the removal of the Super Smash Bros. kiosks.
At this point, no new details have been released and the investigation is still ongoing. Nintendo World has also remained open and will continue to stay open until further notice.
It is worth pointing out that this story is still developing.
