Playing games on VR so far has proven challenging for some because of nausea that the experience induces on certain people. To find out what exactly is causing dizziness among players, Microsoft’s decision to release “Minecraft VR” on the “Oculus Rift” will serve as much as a test bed as it is a full VR experience of the massively popular game.
As PC World noted, the previous showcasing of the VR version of “Minecraft” was not the most pleasant experience because of nausea that players experienced. This time, the company promises that the full release on the “Rift” will involve far less dizziness.
Among the new features that were added include a button that will place the players in front of a virtual flat-screen inside a virtual room, which then removes the illusion of being in a VR simulation, as well as changing the turning into a 22.5-degree arc. According to Microsoft, their tests indicate that the adjustment led to a marked reduction of dizziness while still maintaining control.
PC World notes that the most important aspect to “Minecraft” becoming a VR game has to do with the game’s “sedate” state. There are only a few moving objects, the surfaces are flat, and the graphics are fairly simplistic. These aspects make the game a perfect test bed to see exactly why players become nauseated when playing VR games.
With regards to the game’s release on the “Oculus Rift” itself, AR/VR developer Mike McGrath made a post, inviting both old and new players to try the game.
"We'd like to welcome you to the game all over again, because it's a fantastic new experience in VR, even if you're a Minecraft veteran," McGrath wrote. "For new and experienced players, we hope the VR experience in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will illuminate just how powerful, evocative, and utterly immersive VR can be."
