Microsoft has recently shown its continuing support for Xbox 360 gamers through the release of another system update, two years after the last.
Reports noted that Microsoft has rolled out system update 2.0.17526.0 for the Xbox 360 platform, which is the latest manifestation that Microsoft continues to support the now-obsolete console. This is a notable move from the company considering that it has released more advanced versions of the Xbox One console within the past couple of years.
However, there seem to be no groundbreaking patches included in system update 2.0.17526.0. On Xbox’s official support page, the changelog only indicates that the latest Xbox 360 system version brought in “minor bug fixes and improvements.”
Prior to this month’s system patch, the latest update was released back on March 29, 2016, which similarly did not have a specific changelog and only mentioned fixes and improvements. The update 2.0.17502.0 came out about a month before Microsoft officially announced that it was closing the curtains on Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 was in production for over a decade, until it was declared obsolete on April 20, 2016. Xbox chief Phil Spencer previously said in a statement, “The realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us.”
Apart from the system update, Microsoft also does not leave out Xbox 360 players from their regular promotional campaigns within the subscription-based Xbox Live platform such as Games with Gold and Deals with Gold. However, obviously, there have been more perks provided to Xbox One players.
Microsoft’s continuing efforts to support Xbox 360 after more than 10 years is important to gamers who just cannot let go of their older consoles. However, there are also highlight strategies of the company that shows they are subtly convincing gamers to make the move to the Xbox One. A great example to this is the Xbox One Backward Compatibility, where hundreds of Xbox 360 titles have been ported to the Xbox One platform for free.
