For nearly 30 years, Leonard has served as outside counsel to companies throughout the United States in the area of taxation, with an emphasis on general business planning, business formation, employee benefits, tax-exempt bond issuance, mergers and acquisitions, and estate planning.
“Our team is excited to welcome Paul to the firm,” said Rudy Aguilar, McGlinchey Stafford’s Managing Member. “His strong tax background will be an outstanding resource for the clients we represent nationwide. Paul has a wealth of experience structuring entities and agreements to protect assets and minimize tax liability that brings value to our current and future clients.”
Throughout his career, Leonard has helped clients choose and form the proper business entity for their needs, structure their operations to meet their goals in the manner that offers the most tax advantages, and grow through the acquisition of other businesses or assets. Leonard also has extensive experience advising clients on general business and tax matters to achieve their goals in a way that minimizes their tax liability through permissible deductions, deferrals, and classification of income, as well as sales of businesses or their assets.
“McGlinchey Stafford has nationally recognized practices and a growing group of exceptional lawyers in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for me to grow my taxation and business law practices and offer a vast network of national resources to Alabama-based clients,” said Leonard.
“I am excited to announce that Paul has joined our team. Paul’s tax experience brings a new practice area to McGlinchey Stafford’s growing team in Birmingham,” said Christopher A. Bottcher, who leads the firm’s Birmingham office. “Thanks to the talented attorneys at McGlinchey Stafford, the Birmingham office has continued to grow to meet increasing client demands. We look forward to continuing to serve our current and future clients as we strengthen our presence in Alabama.”
Leonard earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1988, his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law (Order of Coif, Dean M. Leigh Harrison Award) in 1987, and his B.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama in 1984.
