BOCA RATON, Fla., July 13, 2017 -- ADT LLC, a leading provider of security and automation solutions for homes and businesses, celebrated one of its LifeSaver events today in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana where Lou Lou, a nine-year-old shih tzu, was saved from a burning home equipped with ADT monitored protection.
A few months ago, Lou Lou’s owner, Andrea Hebert, was away from home as a fire erupted. When ADT called to report the fire, Hebert said she had a small dog inside and to phone the fire department. Minutes later, Hebert returned home and saw firefighters battling the fire. She begged Firefighter Chris Guidry to go inside to get Lou Lou.
“I went in and through the smoke, spotted the dog. She was limp on the floor, barely conscious,” said Guidry. “Once outside, I cupped my fist and breathed into her mouth and nose, performing mouth-to-snout resuscitation. Within a minute, she came around.”
From there, Hebert rushed Lou Lou to a veterinarian who treated the dog with oxygen, shots and antibiotics. Two days later, Lou Lou went home and has since fully recovered.
Hebert is glad Lou Lou isn’t one of the 500,000 pets who die in home fires each year.
“Having ADT made all the difference and was worth every penny to save our precious pup,” Hebert said. “I am grateful for the quick notification from ADT and the fast fire response.”
During today’s event, ADT contributed $5,000 to the St. Martin Parish Fire District.
“We are using part of the funds to purchase specially-designed oxygen masks to treat pets who are rescued from home fires,” said Brian Castille of the fire district.
