OAK BROOK, Ill., June 30, 2017 -- Hub Group (NASDAQ:HUBG) announced today that it has been named to the Top Green Providers list for 2017 by Food Logistics, the only publication exclusively dedicated to covering the movement of product through the global food supply chain.
“We are honored to have our work recognized for the second year in a row,” said Don Maltby, Hub Group’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “Our sustainability initiatives provide great value to our customers and the communities in which we operate. From intermodal conversion to our SmartWay partnership, we are committed to helping improve fuel efficiency and reduce ecological impact.”
Hub Group’s headquarters also reflect the company’s commitment to sustainability through its LEED Gold certification. That design increases the use of natural light and includes a rain water harvesting system and a footprint that preserves some of the natural prairie.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services or exemplary leadership enhances sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent. The editorial staff evaluates factors like the applicant’s participation in programs such as the EPA’s SmartWay and use of facilities that are LEED-certified, feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations, or use retrofits that produce measure reductions in GHG emissions.
“The future viability of the world’s food supply chain is dependent upon our ability to integrate sustainability from farm to fork,” says Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director at Food Logistics. “Transportation and logistics comprise a significant part of that supply chain, and we commend those companies in our industry that embrace their role as environmental stewards, while raising the sustainability bar for their peers.”
