Huawei P40 Pro Premium Edition: Fifth sensor of its penta-camera setup still unknown

Huawei Mobile / Facebook

The Huawei P40 is one of the most highly anticipated smartphone releases this year. While waiting for its launch, take a look at some of the exciting rumors doing their rounds online.

Huawei P40 camera

According to T3, there have been long-standing rumors that the letter P in the Huawei P Series stands for Photography. Given the line’s photography-focused branding, it is but natural to expect for the upcoming Huawei P40 to sport some impressive camera package.

And it looks like the upcoming smartphone won’t disappoint at all. Recent leaks suggest that the Huawei Pro “Premium Edition” will have five lenses housed in its back camera assembly, according to XDA Developers.

The four lenses of the Premium Edition’s penta-camera setup include a regular wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, a periscope zoom lens, and a ToF sensor. It is yet unknown what the fifth sensor will be.

Meanwhile, the regular Huawei P40 Pro will feature a four-lens back camera setup that includes a ToF sensor, a periscope lens, a regular wide-angle len, and an ultra-wide-angle lens. Another difference between the Premium Edition and the regular Pro is that the former will sport a ceramic backplate.

Screen with curved four edges might not happen

Another Huawei P40 feature that got fans excited is its screen which is rumored to be curved in all four edges. According to Tech Radar, it’s a design feature that has not seen before on a smartphone so it’s worth checking out.

However, a recent leak on the Chinese social media Weibo is a bit disappointing. Rather than the curved screen design on its four edges, the leak shows slightly rounded at the edges that are similar to the Huawei P30 Pro.

Gadget might ditch the notch

There have been reports saying that the Huawei P40 might be ditching the notch. There might not even be a punch-hole at all which could mean that the highly anticipated under-screen selfie camera might finally appear on the upcoming gadget.

Another leak that made its rounds on Weibo seems to support this notchless design. An image of its screen protector was posted on the site does not show a notch or even a punch-hole.
