A protest in Gujarat forced several stores of multinational companies Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza, and KFC to shut down following the tweets by the Pakistani social media handles of the brands showing their support for the people of Kashmir.
The messages angered Indian social media users and members of right-wing outfits.
The tweets on February 5 that coincided with Pakistan's Kashmir Solidarity Day were linked to the Twitter accounts of the Pakistan subsidiaries of Pizza Hut Inc., Domino's Pizza Inc., KFC, Hyundai Motor Co., and Atlas Honda Ltd.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned the South Korean ambassador over Hyundai's tweet, stating the post by the brand’s Pakistani subsidiaries was 'unacceptable'.
KFC Pakistan's social media handle post had read, "Their cravings for freedom are heartfelt," while the post from Pizza Hut Pakistan said, "This Kashmir Solidarity Day, let's join hands and stand united for the freedom of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters."
