With less than a week to go before the Google Pixel 3 launch event in New York on Oct. 9, here are a few things potential buyers should know about the tech giant’s latest flagship smartphone.
Two next-generation smartphones, the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, will be unveiled during the event, and based on the leaks so far, they will likely retain some of the best features from the previous generation of Pixel phones while adding improvements in several key areas to allow the phones to stand out in the current market.
According to the leaks, the notch-free Google Pixel 3 is going to be quite similar to the Pixel 2 in appearance, although it’s expected to have thinner bezels on the top and bottom. On the other hand, the Pixel 3 XL is going to sport a notch that is supposed to house the front-facing camera.
As for the specification and features, expect the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, an Adreno 630 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. The smartphones will feature a display with a screen resolution of 1440x2960 and a pixel density of 494ppi. Interestingly, Google seems to be sticking to a single rear camera system for the Pixel 3 and Pixel XL.
Meanwhile, Google Japan recently posted a video that seems to hint the new smartphones are retaining the Active Edge feature seen on the Pixel 2.
Aside from the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel XL, several new devices are expected to be unveiled as well next week. The Pixelbook 2 is expected to show up at the event in New York, and it will reportedly feature a 4K display and an upgraded processor. The Google Assistant-touting smart speaker Home Hub will make its debut, and a new charging dock called the Pixel Stand will be introduced as well.
