Since 1958, ARCS® Foundation (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation, Inc.) has provided Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) funding for more than 10,000 men and women at top-ranked universities throughout the nation. One of the biggest days each year for generous individuals to show their commitment to the national organization that furthers advanced STEM education is fast approaching. GivingTuesday 2017, a global day of giving, will be held November 28. ARCS Foundation members and chapters from coast to coast are strongly encouraging financial assistance that supports the mission to promote scientific innovation.

“The 10,000-plus recipients of STEM awards through ARCS Foundation are national leaders in scientific discoveries and innovations that have made a mark on our world,” said ARCS Foundation President Andi Purple. “The generous gifts offered on GivingTuesday will help ensure that ARCS Foundation continues to fund our country’s future science leaders for years to come.”
Supporting promising young US scientists in the early stage of their research careers, ARCS Foundation Scholar Awards are recognized for their impact in ensuring the strength of the STEM pipeline, which is fundamental to an innovative and growing U.S. economy. Because much government funding focuses on science in its developed stage, ARCS Foundation fulfills an essential role in ensuring that young scientists may confidently pursue the basic research that is fundamental to scientific discovery.
GivingTuesday 2017 will be the sixth such global event, and collective gifts are promoted on social media with the #GivingTuesday hashtag. ARCS supporters use the #ARCSMATTERS hashtag to promote their commitment to furthering science. GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the U.S. and is recognized alongside Black Friday and Cyber Monday as the unofficial start of the holiday giving season. The inaugural GivingTuesday was held in 2012; it has quickly grown into a worldwide movement to celebrate and support philanthropy throughout the year.
