The year of 2018 is almost over and, unfortunately, fans have yet to hear a substantial update about the making of “GTA 6.” Fans can only speculate how Rockstar Games will live up to the expectations on “GTA 6” established by the success of its predecessor “GTA V.”

One of the favorite topics in speculating about “GTA 6” is the possibilities for the next main protagonist. The video game franchise has featured a wide array of characters in every title. But there will always be one character whose story is the center of the gameplay.

There are speculations that “GTA 6” cannot be expected to recycle main protagonists from the previous installments. This means many fans are hoping to see a new face when playing the highly anticipated sequel game in the coming years.

Dexerto suggests that the likes of Trevor Philips, along with Michael and Franklin, who appeared in “GTA V” might not return for the sequel. But the same report considers the possibility of their cameo appearances in “GTA 6.”

Rockstar Games has also been rumored to introduce the first-ever female protagonist in “GTA 6.” An earlier interview might prove this is a possible direction for the developers. Series co-writer Dan Houser told The Guardian in 2013, “In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course. We just haven't found the right game for it yet, but it's one of the things that we always think about. It didn't feel natural for [‘GTA V’] but definitely for the right game in the future – with the right themes, it could be fantastic.”

As mentioned, details for “GTA 6” is very scarce right now. Houser only hinted recently that its release date will not happen anytime soon. “It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did,” Houser told the British GQ last month. It can also be recalled that gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter predicted that the game could be announced in 2020 but would likely launch in 2021.
