Epic's free-to-play game "Fortnite" has taken the gaming industry by storm through its battle royale game mode. Its success had been opened up by "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG), which introduced battle royale game modes to the public consciousness.
While originally a PC release that branched out to PlayStation and Xbox One releases, "Fortnite" has also expanded to mobile gaming platforms. The game's iOS version has already been out since 2017, with an iOS signup event already listing many of the supported iOS platforms.
Much recently, "Fortnite," with particular focus on its battle royale mode, has become available for the Nintendo Switch.
The channels through which "Fortnite" is being released and currently being played are staggering, but a "Fortnite" Android version has yet to come, much to the disappointment of mobile platform players. People have been anticipating the release of an Android version of "Fortnite" so much so that some have even fallen for a recent scam claiming to be an invite to "Fortnite's" Android beta.
Promises of Android support have been official since last March, with the FAQ stating that "Fortnite" Android will be available "in the next few months." A May development report also stated that the developers are targetting a summer release for the much-awaited Android version of the game.
Unfortunately, the wait for "Fortnite" Android has been made even more frustrating by a recent story that circulated rumors that the game is to be released sometime in late July. The story claims that Tencent Games, the developer that worked on the mobile version of "PUBG," has teased a possible July 24 release for the game, but the Twitter account being used as a source was recently suspended, putting the claims of legitimacy into question.
With a summer timeline, the period of July to September becomes the potential release date for "Fortnite" Android. Epic games has been quiet about a "Fortnite" Android release since their assurances of it happening last March and May. There have been no announcements of any official "Fortnite" Android closed alpha or beta signups, which does not bode well for anyone expecting a closer release date.
