Foreign carmakers in South Korea excluding Chevrolet and Tesla sold 5.5 times more vehicles so far this year at 1,043 cars from last year's 189.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s sales dwindled by 18.8 percent to 3,308 cars from last year's 4,075 cars.
Mercedes-Benz had sold 242 units of its first purely electric model, the EQC 400 4MATIC SUVs, as of April this year, multiplying by more than 10 times the 23 cars it sold last year.
There were 12 units of EQC 400s sold in January, and 13 in February before sales took off in March with 80 and April with 137.
Mercedes-Benz Korea said that as EVs over 90 million won are no longer eligible for government subsidies, it offered a 10 million won discount and low-interest monthly installment plans.
Porsche already sold 493 units of its Taycan 4S electric sports car released last November.
