Based on how things went in last week’s episode, it is very possible for the anime series to finally reveal the complete appearance and identity of the WGO Book Master. In this case, “Food Wars” season 5 episode 9 is going to be a major turning point for the series and Erina’s development.

The upcoming episode is titled “The God Tongue’s Despair” which suggests that it is going to reveal the real identity of the Book Master after subjecting Erina in a rather unfair gauntlet-like competition.
Chefs from Totsuki were shocked to find that Erina was taking the brunt of the bizarre style of competition that was decided personally by the current Book Master. The director of Totsuki had to face all chefs that lost in earlier rounds in revenge matches so Erina could advance in the competition. In the manga, this was the event that led to the revelation that the Book Master is Mana Nakiri, Erina’s biological mother. “Food Wars” season 5 episode 9 is titled “The God Tongue’s Despair” and it makes it more possible for Mana’s appearance to happen and reveal why she despises her daughter. Mana also possesses the God Tongue gift, but it only drove her to hate cooking and the culinary world because no dish could ever satisfy her. Mana’s introduction in “Food Wars” season 5 episode 9 would also set the course for the ultimate ending of the series. When she was added to the manga, it became more apparent that there is a more meaningful reason for Erina to win the BLUE competition. On the other hand, this endgame was also what started plenty of debates considering that the series started by establishing Soma as the main protagonist.

With the current pacing of the series, it is starting to look like “Food Wars” season 5 is set to have just 12 to 13 episodes only including the epilogue arc called Le Dessert in the manga. This means episode 9 is one of the last episodes of the series that will be released on late Friday, Aug. 28.
