NASHUA, N.H., Jan. 16, 2018 -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Wisdom of Crowds® Analytical Data Infrastructure Market Study. Analytical Data Infrastructure (ADI) defines a set of technology components for integrating, modeling, managing, storing, and accessing data sets. These data sets then serve as sources for analytic and business intelligence consumers, such as analytic/business applications, tools, and users.
The annual report examines user perceptions, intentions, and realities associated with ADI. Topics covered include deployment and licensing priorities, data types, data modeling/management of data associated with ADI, and data preparation and loading priorities. The report considers user preferences in ADI development and deployment features, as well as ADI interfaces and analytical features.
The majority (82 percent) of respondents indicate “business user reporting and dashboards” as the highest use case driving ADI requirements and priorities, ranking it as “critical” or “very important”. The second-highest use case is “business user discovery and exploration,” which respondents rank as “very important” to “important”.
Transactional data is the top data type priority for ADI platforms in 2018, followed by metadata, which increases in priority compared to 2017. Text, machine/log data, and images/video data type support have also increased in year-over-year priority for ADI platforms.
“The ADI report provides an expansive look at trends at the data management level, the critical foundation of successful BI and analytics projects,” said Bill Hostmann, research fellow at Dresner Advisory Services. “In our second year of covering this market, we are seeing what could be the beginnings of a trend in ADI use cases priorities. While standard activities for business users such reporting, dashboards, data discovery, and exploration remain the top use cases, both declined slightly in terms of driving ADI priorities year over year.”
Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Analytical Data Infrastructure users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.
