Datally users are getting an update that will add several features, including Guest Mode and the option to set a daily limit to mobile data usage.
Google's own developed app, Datally, is practically a mobile data manager that lets people have more control of their internet use, especially when they are on a mobile data plan.
First, it is important to note that some smartphone manufacturers have already added daily data limit settings and "guest mode" options to their products. However, Google’s own offerings simply appear more efficient.
When on Guest Mode on Datally, users can make a dedicated profile that can be activated when someone borrows their device. But, in addition to that, users can also allocate a specific amount of mobile data that the device will use once it is on Guest Mode.
Like Guest Mode, daily data cap had been available on various Android smartphones even before Datally was released last year. However, Datally’s version of the setting seems more effective since it presents an option to block apps from accessing the internet once the user is about to consume their daily mobile data allowance.
Once there is little data allowance left, they will receive warnings from Datally and they can choose whether to continue connecting to the internet through mobile data or not.
Google has also introduced a couple more updates to the app. In a blog post, Google said, “Did you know that for many people, 20 percent of mobile data is used in the background by apps they haven’t opened in over a month?” The latest Datally update adds the “Unused Apps” feature so users will be informed of apps that consume mobile data even when they are not actually being used.
Datally also gets a “Wi-Fi Map” that tracks the closest Wi-Fi network. Datally users also have an option to rate a Wi-Fi network based on its quality, which can help other users looking for a new hangout spot with the best Wi-Fi service.
