Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. inked a 900 billion-won deal from a Russian company to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) barges.
There is also the option to build two more LNG barges.
The barges, which tranship LNG from LNG icebreakers to LNG carriers, would be delivered between Murmansk and the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia by the end of 2022.
It would also be used as a way station for LNG carriers.
The LNG barges could bring LNG more rapidly and lower the operating cost of LNG carriers.
Daewoo Shipbuilding has so far bagged orders worth $1.43 billion this year.
Other than the two barges, Daewoo Shipbuilding also won deals for four other orders this year, namely one sizeable crude carrier, two shuttle tankers, and one LNG floating storage regasification unit,
