WILMINGTON, Del., April 04, 2016 -- With college graduation next month, most Class of 2016 seniors are searching for a job. A new interactive video, the “Career Playbook,” can help aspiring young professionals land a good job and build a successful career.
The interactive video is available free online from Navient, the nation’s leading loan management, servicing and asset recovery company. It covers critical concepts, such as how to network and how to craft the invaluable “elevator pitch” for young adults looking to make their way in the working world.
Many young adults may find themselves choosing between a job that pays well versus a job they love, or between a job that pushes their career forward or a job that gives them time for other pursuits. The Career Playbook video describes this dynamic as “The Career Triangle” and offers advice for managing expectations around job satisfaction, lifestyle, and money.
“The good news is that you can have job satisfaction, good compensation, and a fulfilling lifestyle… but not necessarily all at once, and maybe not right now,” said Jim Citrin, best-selling author and career planning expert. “The trade-offs you choose to make are likely to shift with your priorities over the course of your life.”
Generally, young adults are more satisfied with their life and health than they are with their current job or income, but they are more optimistic about future prospects for income and career, according to Money Under 35, a new study conducted by Navient and the global market research company Ipsos. The study found most employed young adults consider their current employment to be a job rather than a career (60% job and 36% career) and rate their job satisfaction slightly above the midpoint (6.1 on a 10-point scale).
But, those who completed a degree may enjoy a more rewarding career development path. They rate their satisfaction with their prospects for future earnings nearly a full point higher than do those with no degree (7.1 for associate, bachelor’s and advanced degrees versus 6.3 for some college, no degree and high school or less).
The Career Playbook interactive video is part of Navient’s Path to Success series, featuring online learning courses on a range of topics, such as: budgets, credit scores, military education loan benefits, student loan repayment options, interest rates, and savings and investments.
