China’s Commerce Ministry has strongly opposed new U.S. tariffs on Chinese products linked to fentanyl, calling them "unreasonable and groundless." The ministry accused the U.S. of using the fentanyl crisis as a pretext to impose trade restrictions and vowed countermeasures to safeguard China’s interests.
The U.S. claims China supplies chemicals used in fentanyl production, a charge Beijing denies. China argues that Washington is "shifting the blame" for its domestic drug problem rather than addressing the root causes.
In a statement, China urged the U.S. to "immediately withdraw" the tariffs, warning they would harm global trade and economic stability. The escalating trade tensions come amid broader disputes between the two economic giants, adding to ongoing friction over technology, national security, and supply chains.
As the conflict deepens, markets are closely watching for China’s next move. The response could impact global trade relations and further strain U.S.-China economic ties.
