Carol Stream, Ill., May 07, 2017 -- Dr. Mondrian R. Contreras, DVM, owner of Carol Stream Animal Hospital, has announced the publication of his new illustrated children's book, The Incredible Life of Dory. The story follows the life of an amazing greyhound who inspires children to be generous, compassionate, and determined.
Dory isn't an ordinary racing greyhound, though she does become a champion. Her story, which is based on true events, follows her through many selfless and compassionate acts. She ends up as part of a loving family, who recognizes her sweet demeanor and loving heart. The book shows how one dog can have a big impact on a surprising number of people.
"Many people don't realize how important a single dog can be. One of the reasons I chose Dory as my subject is that she shows just how many people are touched by the existence of one canine. Her story is made more interesting by her involvement in a wide variety of activities. I chose to make it a children's book because I believe that kids should be shown the importance of pets. This way, they can learn a better appreciation of their family's animals while enjoying interesting, well-illustrated reading material," said Dr. Contreras.
Dr. Contreras, himself, has had an interesting life. He started out with an interest in athletics (playing college football for the Illini) and art and graduated from the University of Illinois with an art history degree. Later, he found himself drawn to veterinary medicine, and went back to school to learn the craft. First, he went to the University of Tuskegee Summer Enrichment Program, and after completing that, he received full admission offers from that institution as well as the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He chose Florida for its "distinguished reputation."
After graduating, Dr. Contreras and his family moved to Illinois, where the doctor accepted an associate veterinarian position in 2011. Later, he became the sole owner of Carol Stream Animal Hospital.
"I tend to stay very busy. Yet, despite all of my animal care duties, I still felt the need to engage in creative pursuits. This led me to write The Incredible Life of Dory, which is now published in paperback," Dr. Contreras said, of his recent publication available for purchase online.
