Burger King is set to unveil a $5 value meal to rival McDonald’s limited-time promotion, but fans fear 'smaller portions' might be a concern.
Burger King to Launch $5 'Your Way Meal' with Customizable Sandwich Options Amidst Fast Food Price War
As per an initial report by Bloomberg (via The Sun), the “Your Way Meal” from Burger King is designed to cater to your preferences. It includes a choice of three sandwiches, fries, chicken nuggets, and a beverage. The sandwich options are a bacon cheeseburger, a Whopper Jr., or a chicken Jr.
"We are bringing back our $5 Your Way Meal as agreed upon with our franchisees back in April," the company said in a statement to USA TODAY.
When the “Your Way Meal” hits the menus, it's expected to stay for several months. While the exact date of its introduction is still a mystery, Burger King's executives are eager for it to debut before McDonald's $5 value meal on June 25, sparking a thrilling competition.
McDonald's $5 Meal Faces Criticism Over Portion Sizes as Burger King Joins Fast Food Price War
The $5 McDonald's entrée will comprise medium fries, a beverage, and a McChicken or McDouble with four chicken McNuggets. Nevertheless, the promotion is limited to a few weeks. During an earnings teleconference in late April, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski stated that the company is "obsessed with affordability." In the past decade, the restaurant has encountered consumer backlash due to the escalation of its menu prices.
Rest assured, Burger King has not specified the portion sizes for the fries, nuggets, and beverages included in the $5 entrée. This leaves room for optimism that the portions will be adequate.
"Let me guess -- a small fry and small drink," predicted one on Reddit. "For only 25 cents less you can get a super small!" joked another.
A Burger King supporter divulged their method for quenching hunger. "These are usually smaller portions but even then, if you're really hungry, for around $12 including taxes you can get two of these deals and get a total of eight items - not a bad deal at all."
Additionally, rival fast-food chains compete to provide consumers with the most significant value. Wetherby's has reinstated its brunch combo for $3 and is offering burgers for a single cent. In the interim, Buffalo Wild Wings has reinstated its all-you-can-eat promotion.
