‘Bungie’ Putting The Screws On ‘PS3’ And ‘Xbox 360’ ‘Destiny’ Players

When “Bungie” announced that they will not be releasing the “Rise of Iron” expansion for “Destiny” on the last generation of consoles, owners of “PlayStation 3s” and “Xbox 360s” were not pleased. Not content with depriving them of the expansion, “Bungie” further put the screws on last generation console owners by cutting off support for many features of the game. In essence, “Destiny” will become a shadow of its former self, robbing millions of players certain aspects of the game.

Forbes listed the features of the game that “Bungie” will be shutting down, including “Trials of Osiris” and the end of holiday deals. One would think that getting intentionally deprived of an expansion is bad enough, but to lose existing features of a game they paid for simply because they refuse to upgrade to newer consoles should ruffle more than a few feathers.

Having said that, it also seems clear that “Bungie” is pushing players to switch to “PS4” or “Xbox One” consoles in order to have more customers to buy their offerings as well as any sequel in the franchise that they are making. With the deals that the company has with “Sony,” it’s more than likely that switching to the “PlayStation” platforms is the company’s preferred direction for players.

More than that, many of “Destiny’s” current gen console players are also convinced that if “Bungie” stopped catering to last gen specs, the developers would be able to add new areas and better features thanks to the superior performance. So it isn’t just the developers that want this to happen.

In terms of how the players will be able to play their games once they upgrade to a new console, PC Mag reports that “Bungie” is supporting saved data transfer. However, the feature will only work for consoles within the same family, so “Xbox 360” players won’t be able to transfer their files to a “PS4” and vice versa.
