'Bettlejuice 2' Release Date, Cast and Spoilers: Everything We Know So Far

The original “Beetlejuice” is frequently at the top of everyone's list when they think of legendary gothic-influenced horror films. Due to its cult classic reputation, counter-cultural style, and a somewhat contemporary musical adaption that has been on and off Broadway since 2018, the film, which stars Michael Keaton in one of his most prominent appearances, has managed to maintain popularity. “Beetlejuice 2” is set to release on September 6, 2024, per Dexerto. Filming began on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the United Kingdom but was interrupted just days before completion owing to SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

While only a few cast members have been announced thus far, the names that have already been attached raise hopes that the sequel will be able to live up to the original. To begin with, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will reprise their roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia, respectively, in “Bettlejuice 2.”

In addition, “Wednesday” and “Scream” star Jenna Ortega has been cast in the “Bettlejuice 2” film as Lydia's daughter. Jenna's character is named Astrid, according to CriticalOverlord on Twitter (X). She is a boarding school student who despises her mother's supernatural show. Other cast members include Willem Dafoe, who will play an afterlife law enforcement officer in the disturbing movie.

“I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person. And in life I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife. So that’s my job. But it’s colored by the fact of who I was [when I was alive]: a B movie action star,” Willem Dafoe told Variety of his character in the “Bettlejuice 2” movie.

Justin Theroux has also been cast as the fictitious character Rory in “Bettlejuice 2.” According to rumors on the internet, the figure will be the antagonist and Lydia's manager/fiancé. Tim Burton will return to the director's chair, which has piqued fans' interest in a sequel.

Little is known about the plot of “Beetlejuice 2” at the time of writing, although we do have some speculations. According to recent reports, Lydia is the host of a supernatural show, with Rory serving as her manager/fiancé. Rory is suspected of being the villain, with Beetlejuice appearing to assist Lydia and Astrid.

In the first film, a recently departed married couple (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) are extremely frustrated by the new family who has come into their home. Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Ryder (who portrays their teenage daughter) play the family in question. In order to get rid of the family, the couple hires Beetlejuice, a malevolent and terrible Netherworld ghost, to assist them in haunting the house's new occupants.
