PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 03, 2016 -- Beneficial Bank is proud to announce it has partnered with The Rachael Ray Show to honor the Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, a community center that provides computers, a library and healthy meals for local youth.
In a segment that airs on the November 3, 2016 episode of The Rachael Ray Show, Beneficial Bank provided a surprise $25,000 donation to celebrate the positive impact the center and its founder, Kevin Upshur, have had on youth in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city. Upshur, a Philadelphia youth detention counselor, transformed his family’s bar into the learning center to honor his mother’s wishes that he give back to their local community. The center gives neighborhood children a safe haven where they are provided with structured programming, educational services, and field trip opportunities to promote positive growth and development. The center also promotes computer literacy, healthy lifestyles and culinary arts to the broader community.
“Beneficial Bank shares the Strawberry Mansion Learning Center’s deep commitment to helping our children and communities grow stronger,” said Gerard Cuddy, President and CEO, Beneficial Bank. “We are so proud to support the transformative work Kevin and the dedicated team at the center does to benefit their community.”
“We have to continue working together within our communities to provide opportunities for our youth,” said Kevin Upshur, founder and chairman, Strawberry Mansion Learning Center. “Beneficial’s donation will be used to improve our computer, tech, and reading literacy programs.”
Community involvement is deeply rooted in Beneficial Bank’s culture. The bank carries on the tradition started by its founder, Saint John Neumann, who dedicated his life to helping others, through volunteerism, financial literacy programs, and philanthropic giving.
