‘Vikings’ season 4B is set to introduce a new generation of warriors as Ragnar prepares to step down from the throne. He is set to train Ivan to become the Vikings’ new leader while Bjorn forges his own group with Floki.
According to iTech Post, the incoming half of season 4 is set to introduce a new generation of Vikings. It was speculated that Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) will finally step down as the king and will be succeeded by one of his sons, namely Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen).
Series creator Michael Hirst teased in a previous interview that season 4’s B-side will usher in new developments for key characters specifically Rangar, his son Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen), and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick).
In addition to Ivar, Ragnar’s sons Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), Sigurd (David Lindstron), and Hvitserk (Marco Islø) will also be featured. Hirst admitted, “We all looked at pictures of Travis from the first season when he was fresh and young and everything. He's grown in to Ragnar, he's changed. It was amazing to see him with these young guys… It filled me full of optimism and hope for the show moving forward."
It was reported that Ragnar will be choosing his second son Ivar to take over as the new king. This decision would rule out his first-born Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), who is supposedly the rightful successor to the throne. Hirst praised Andersen’s Ivar saying, “Alex, who plays Ivar the Boneless, is just awesome.”
He continued, “To see him in a scene with Travis is immense. The really strange thing is we were casting, we had 14 young guys in this room. They rehearsed some scenes, they did some together and some separately. Alex was just clearly amazing, and he wasn't here to read for Ivar the Boneless but as soon as I saw him and heard him I said, 'Would you do that?'"
It seems that Fimmel himself is through with being the king. He admitted, "I feel like it always feels like he's let down or he doesn't have the support of the people anymore." It would be interesting to see Ragnar priming Ivar to follow in his footsteps despite not being able to use his legs.
Meanwhile, Bjorn will be forging his own group of Vikings to exact revenge on the Wessex. According to an article on Sportsrageous, there will be no “bad blood” among the brothers and Bjorn’s love for his siblings will override jealousy and rivalry. Floki will also be joining him in his new adventure.
‘Vikings’ is a historical drama series written and created by Michael Hirst. Season 4 was split into two 10-episode parts, with the second part set to premiere on History on November 20, 2016.
