Some of the earliest reports about the iPhone 13 series suggested there will be no major design changes to expect this year. However, it appears that some features of the upcoming Apple smartphones will still be different. A live image, allegedly showing a prototype of the iPhone 13 mini, doubles down on an earlier leak that the rear dual-camera will don a new layout.
Another supposed iPhone 13 leak shows new rear camera design
The photo in question appeared recently on the Weibo page Digital Madness (via Gizchina), showing a device that is “suspected to be an iPhone 13 mini prototype.” Nothing much was shown in the post, but some details seem to correspond with earlier leaks.
For one, the rumored iPhone 13 prototype does have the same basic design as the iPhone 12 lineup, which features a form factor resembling the iPhone 5 form factor.
The rear camera bump also looks identical to the latest iPhones, except for the layout of the two lenses, microphone, and flash. The new leak features the same layout as what appeared in previously leaked CAD renders, as all components are placed diagonally.
However, the photo posted on Weibo only shows the alleged iPhone 13 mini’s back, so there is no way to tell if it also sports the rumored smaller display notch. Earlier reports suggested the notch will be narrower, and the earpiece would be moved above the front-facing sensors.
Another interesting detail in the newer leak is that the iPhone 13 mini prototype appears in a blue colorway. This could be an indication that the color option would remain for the upcoming iPhone series.
iPhone 13 release date, specs: What to expect
Aside from the design tweaks, iPhone 13 is also highly anticipated to launch with the next-generation processor A15. Apple fans might get more ideas on the improvements for the upcoming smartphones once the company unveils the iOS 15 update at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7. Another iPhone 13 detail that has been in the rumor mill for some time now is the return of Touch ID.
However, there is still time for some of the leaked features and designs to change. The iPhone 13 series is not expected to enter production for the next few months, and it is likely to be announced in the fall, possibly in September.
