Zelenskiy Warns Russia Preparing Major Attack on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned that Russia is preparing another large-scale attack on Ukraine as Kyiv seeks additional air defense support from its Western allies.

Zelenskiy issued the warning on Telegram after meeting British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He said Ukrainian officials remain in constant contact with international partners over strengthening the country's defenses against Russian missiles and drones.

"There’s intelligence right now that Russia is preparing a new massive attack against Ukraine," Zelenskiy wrote.

The Ukrainian president argued that sanctions on Moscow should not be relaxed while civilians continue to face the threat of Russian aerial attacks. Russia has repeatedly launched large overnight drone and missile strikes during the war, while its forces have recently increased barrages throughout the day.

Moscow has also deployed jet-powered drones capable of flying at higher altitudes, complicating interception efforts and causing wider disruption to businesses, government operations and civilian life.

During his visit to New York, Zelenskiy also met U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss efforts aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Their discussions included the possibility of a bilateral ceasefire covering attacks on energy infrastructure.

On the battlefield, Russian troops continue to make gradual advances in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, although the overall front line has changed relatively little in recent months. Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, have expanded long-range strikes against targets inside Russia, including oil industry facilities located as far as 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

In a Wall Street Journal interview in New York, Zelenskiy said Russian President Vladimir Putin was neither clearly winning nor losing the conflict, but lacked sufficient pressure to enter direct peace negotiations.

"The situation on the battlefield is not successful for Putin," Zelenskiy said, adding that Russia continues to suffer significant human losses.

"He doesn’t feel that he has to stop," Zelenskiy said.
