The iPad Mini 5 is rumored to come out sometime in June. And while others may have been waiting for this new iteration, a recent leak suggests that not much is going to change for the upcoming device.
The decision is due to Apple supposedly wanting to decrease the iPad Mini 5’s price tag, while simultaneously appealing to the current market. So what can consumers expect from this upcoming version? According to 9to5mac, the device will sport the same Touch ID, Lightning connector, and 3.5mm headphone jack of its most recent predecessor.
What’s more, the iPad Mini 5 will allegedly have the same bezels and dimension of the iPad Mini 4. The only features that Apple will supposedly bump are its processor and display panel, Business Times reported.
It would seem that the point in creating the iPad Mini 5 is for the series to make sense in Apple’s iPad lineup. At the moment, the 9.7-inch iPad got the iPad Mini 4 beat. The former is tagged with a price mark of $329 while the latter is hovering at $399.
If Apple reduces the iPad Mini 5’s price by a significant amount, then the abovementioned specs can be justified. If not, then this new iteration will likely underperform in sales. Worse, it may further decrease the already declining popularity of the series.
So how much should the iPad Mini 5 cost in order to justify the unremarkable features that’s been supposedly outfitted to the device? 9to5mac suggest that a full $100 price is the way to go. This makes sense if Apple’s goal is to appeal to end users that are looking for a budget-friendly iPad.
As for when the device will be released, nothing has been confirmed just yet. The month of June is touted to be the date, although it could come out as early as March during Apple’s annual event. However, since most of the news revolving around the iPad Mini 5 are coming from rumors and not from the company itself, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt.
