Louise Ashley

Lecturer in Organization Studies, Royal Holloway

Dr Louise Ashley is a lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behaviour at Royal Holloway, University of London and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Professional Service Firms at Cass Business School.

She specialises in researching the implementation and development of diversity and inclusion programmes in large, multinational professional service firms, with a particular focus on gender and social class. Louise has published articles in leading academic journals and recently co-wrote the chapter on diversity and inclusion in the Oxford University Press Handbook of Professional Service Firms (2015). Her research has also been covered in mainstream media including The Times, Financial Times and The Guardian, in trade press including Legal Week and The Lawyer, and in specialist publications including People Management and Management Today. She recently appeared on Radio 4's Thinking Allowed.

Louise has recently completed a study examining the implementation of global diversity and inclusion programmes within large international law firms. She led the team appointed by the government's Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission (SMCPC) to understand non-educational barriers to the elite professions, published in 2015. During 2016, she is leading the team appointed by the SMCPC to examine the recruitment of high-performing staff to investment banks. Louise regularly takes part in speaking engagements to report her findings to a wider practitioner audience, and consults to private sector and third sector organizations.

Louise has a degree from the University of Cambridge, an MSc from University College London, and a PhD from the University of Oxford.
