A scholar in global health, Sarah Hill originally trained as a doctor and worked in Aotearoa New Zealand, the United Kingdom and West Africa before becoming a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine in 2005. In 2007 Sarah was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and became a Visiting Researcher with the Department of Society, Human Development, and Health at Harvard University. Her PhD (University of Otago, 2009) focused on inequalities in cancer treatment and survival between Indigenous and non-Indigenous New Zealanders, and was included in the Pro-Vice Chancellor’s List of Exceptional PhD Theses.

Sarah's research focuses on understanding and addressing the social and commercial determinants of health to advance health equity in both local and global contexts. She spent 12 years at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social & Political Science where she was Director of the Global Health Policy Unit before moving to the Sydney School of Public Health in 2021.
