I am a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow, based at the Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine and the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research at the University of Glasgow. I received my PhD in 2011 from the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia.

My research seeks to understand how ecology, evolution and epidemiology interact to determine patterns of infectious disease transmission between species - the primary source of newly emerging infectious diseases. The research conducted by my group applies a variety of techniques, from field studies on vampire bats in Peru to phylogenetics, metagenomics, machine learning and large scale comparative analyses. We aim to find out which host species will share pathogens and which pathogens will be shared, what environmental or anthropogenic factors promote cross-species transmission and how can we use this information to create better systems for disease prevention and control.
