Ian Colbeck

Emeritus Professor of Environmental Science, University of Essex
Ian Colbeck is a Professor in Environmental Science within the School of Biological Sciences. He has amassed over 25 years of considerable research achievements and experience over a wide gamut of research interests but predominantly in the field of environmental science. The research has encompassed the use of a wide variety of techniques and has also entailed extensive theoretical analyses of both experimental and computational data.
He is author and co-author of more than 200 papers, over 100 of which have been published in peer reviewed journals. He has participated in EUROTRAC and has collaborated in several Framework V, VI and VII projects (NICE, CADENOX, SUB-AERO, URBAN-AERO, URBAN-EXPOSURE, NANOCAP HEXACOMM). Current research is centred on:
impact of nanoparticles on the environment;
indoor air in developing countries;
air pollution and social deprivation;
impact of sport on the environment;
changing rural livelihoods; and
natural resources and Greening Universities.

He has published 7 books: Aerosol Science: Technology and Applications (John Wiley and Sons, 2014; Human Exposure to Pollutants via Dermal Absorption and Inhalation (Springer, 2010); Basics of Air Pollution Monitoring (University of Lahore, 2009); Environmental Chemistry of Aerosols (Blackwell Publishing, 2008); Pollution and Environmental Monitoring (Editura Academiei Romane, 2004); Physical and Chemical Properties of Aerosols (Blackie Academic & Professional, 1998); Air Pollution by Photochemical Oxidants (Elsevier Science Publishers, 1994)
