Jean De Dieu Ngirabega

Visiting lecturer, Research and Community Health, Ruli Higher Institute of Health
Jean De Dieu Ngirabega is a visiting lecturer in charge of the course of introduction to research and the course of introduction to community health.

He is also currently the Deputy Executive Secretary of the East African Health Research Commission in charge of Research. He attained a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rwanda and holds Master of Public Health from the University of Rwanda, Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Free University of Brussels and PhD in Health Sciences from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium. Previously he was the Deputy Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and Head of the National Institute for HIV/AIDS, Disease Prevention and Control (IHDPC), an institution coordinating HIV/AIDS and STIs, TB and other respiratory communicable diseases, malaria and other parasitic diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCD), mental health, epidemic surveillance and response as well as maternal, child and community health programmes in the country. Prior to joining RBC, he was the Director General of Clinical Services in the Ministry of Health of Rwanda coordinating all clinical activities within the Country.

He has been involved in community health programs since 1986 where he has held senior management positions at district, provincial and national level and conducted several researches in community health systems and malnutrition in children under five.

He has played an active role in design, implementation and monitoring & evaluation of community-based programs in Rwanda such as the Community based health insurance and the community-based nutrition program inter alia. He has been a visiting lecturer at the School of Public Health and Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Rwanda from 2006 to 2015.
